The goals of the
Achoti Movement regarding these women are:
-
To fight for fair salaries and appropriate
work conditions by informing women about their rights and confronting the
employers, who are exploiting the women.
-
To encourage and train the women from
Ethiopia, Arabic and Mizrahi women to start their own businesses by guiding
groups of women and calling on the community to help as well. Some examples
of these group projects include, Women Cook up a Business in Kiryat
Yovel in Jerusalem, and Rikmah (Embroidery) project in Kiryat Gat,
where a group of women from Ethiopia are creating a fashion business by
utilizing their embroidery skills .
-
To support the change of policies for the
betterment of women in need.
-
To create an environment for women to meet
and to learn about Feminism in general and more specifically Mizrahi
Feminism.
-
To promote creativity, Art & Culture of
Mizrahi Feminism.
Another aspect that
Achoti addresses is in regards to how others have referred to the women from the
peripheries' original culture as unimportant and insignificant. In light of
this, the Achoti Movement has set a goal to place this community and culture on
an equally significant and important level as other hegemonic cultures. By
focusing on these left out populations, Achoti has the opportunity to fight for
an extremely weakened group within this culture.
